DJ Gunchs to mark 30 years on stage with ‘Bermudu Divstūris’ and fireworks
On August 7, a special event in Codes Parish will celebrate DJ Gunchs's 30-year career, featuring the group ‘Bermudu Divstūris’ and several other artists.
On Friday, August 7, the courtyard of the ‘Minču štelles’ café in Codes Parish will host a special music event celebrating DJ Gunchs’s 30 years on stage. DJ Gunchs, whose real name is Guntars Simanovičs, has invited the group ‘Bermudu Divstūris’ as the main musical guest. The lineup also includes DJ Kostya Fire, DJ Nordshell, Armands Lozinskis-Lūsis, known for impersonating Renārs Kaupers’s voice, as well as hip-hop artists Artūrs M, G’Son, Lauris Bankevics and Strēlnieks. Go-go dancers will perform, and fireworks are planned at midnight.
Simanovičs says he cannot name a single favourite song because he likes many hits. He recalls his first disco at the Bauska club ‘Trijstūris’, where he started with two 120-watt speakers, cassette players, a homemade mixer and one moving light. Over three decades, party culture has changed significantly – school discos were once common, but now they almost never happen. Attendance has dropped, so the DJ no longer risks selling his own tickets but works for a guaranteed fee.
The DJ has acquired all his equipment gradually with money earned from events. He can now provide sound and lighting for audiences of up to 3,000 people and handle four events in a single day. Among his vivid memories is an incident at the Bauska hillfort stage, when an aggressive visitor was asked to leave and later returned with a crowd of about a hundred people. Police arrived in four cars, and after talks the conflict was resolved without a fight.
Simanovičs regrets that he cannot hold the anniversary at the hillfort stage, where a significant part of his career took place, because reconstruction is underway this year. The stadium and the Town Hall Square were considered but rejected – the square would only allow the event until 1 a.m., while organizers wanted to continue until 5 a.m. A suitable venue was finally found at the ‘Minču štelles’ square.
The greatest satisfaction for the DJ comes from people’s emotions and feedback. About three years ago, he performed at the Ludza city festival in front of roughly 5,000 people and felt nervous before the show, but managed to engage the audience. To organize the jubilee, support from sponsors was essential – the general sponsor is Dainis Egliņš, along with the company ‘Comotus’.
Doors open at 9 p.m., and the party starts at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are available for advance purchase at ‘Biļešu serviss’. Organizers have announced a contest in which three winners can receive invitations for two people – participants must share the event post on Facebook, tag two friends and follow DJ Gunchs’s profile. Winners will be announced on August 2.
