Dombrava does not plan to push state defence service in police and fire service
Latvian Interior Minister Jānis Dombrava of the National Alliance will not politically advance introducing the state defence service in the State Police and the fire and rescue service. The Interior Ministry had earlier prepared a report on the idea.

Latvian Interior Minister Jānis Dombrava, of the National Alliance party (NA), does not intend to politically advance the idea of introducing the state defence service (VAD) in the State Police and the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD), according to reports on the minister's position.
The idea is not new. The Interior Ministry (IeM), which Dombrava now leads, had at one point prepared a report on how the state defence service could possibly be introduced in these two institutions. The State Police and the fire and rescue service are among the institutions within the interior affairs system.
Despite that report, the minister has indicated that he will not push the idea forward. The source does not give his reasons, the details of the report's conclusions, or any further steps on the matter.
