Riga extends traffic restrictions at Pils Square over Torņa Street reconstruction
Because of the Torņa Street reconstruction in Riga, a section of Pils Square from Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street to Torņa Street will be closed to vehicles until 6 November, so drivers cannot exit the Vanšu Bridge toward Pils Square. At weekends the restrictions will overlap with tram track works near the National Theatre.

In Riga, as reconstruction of Torņa Street continues, traffic restrictions at Pils Square have been extended. From 29 October to 6 November, the section of Pils Square between Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street and Torņa Street will be closed to vehicles. As a result, drivers will not be able to leave the Vanšu Bridge in the direction of Pils Square.
The reconstruction covers the stretch of Torņa Street from Jēkaba Street to Arsenāla Street. During this period pedestrian movement in that part of Pils Square will also be restricted, and vehicle traffic will be limited at the junction of Pils Square and Torņa Street.
Overlap with works near the National Theatre
"Rīgas satiksme", the city-owned public transport company, is currently rebuilding tram tracks near the Latvian National Theatre. At weekends, when the number of lanes has to be reduced, traffic there is organised in one lane per direction. On weekdays all four lanes are available, two in each direction. Such work is scheduled for days off because traffic flow is lighter then.
Since both construction projects are under way at the same time, slower traffic is possible in the city centre and around the Vanšu Bridge at weekends. Drivers are urged to plan routes in advance, choose alternative roads, allow extra travel time and follow the posted road signs and traffic organisation changes.
