Jana Zalevska, a junior sergeant in the 19th separate battalion of the Ukrainian Marine Corps, who worked as a choreographer before Russia's full-scale invasion, told Latvian Radio that the war will end when Russian mothers finally start to pity their children.

Zalevska, originally from Kherson, said that before the war she never imagined she would join the army and go to the front. However, the experience of the occupied Kherson made her realize that she had to become part of the military, growing, learning, and defending the country together with others.

She now serves as a drone pilot, actively fighting against Russian forces. Her statement about Russian mothers reflects a broader belief that Russian society must recognize the true cost of the war.
