Over the past decade, drone technology has advanced rapidly, making unmanned aerial vehicles a significant hobby and creative tool for many Latvian residents. While drone regulations were minimal in 2016, legislation has changed considerably in recent years to keep pace with technological progress.

The Civil Aviation Agency (CAA) emphasizes that drone pilots must be aware of both restrictions and potential penalties. For instance, violating regulations can result in fines of up to 1000 euros. Therefore, it is crucial to familiarize oneself with current rules before the first flight to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Since the war in Ukraine began in 2022, the role of drones has become even more prominent, but everyday drone use is also undergoing rapid change. To ensure safe operation for both the pilot and bystanders, certain precautions must be taken and the latest legislative updates should be followed.
