The Ministry of Health in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has announced that at least 930 people have died in the Ebola outbreak, with confirmed infections rising to 2,344. In the last 24 hours alone, 37 deaths were recorded.

The current outbreak is caused by the rare Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, which was initially undetectable by conventional tests. No vaccine is currently available for this strain.

The outbreak has hit Ituri province hardest, where the response to the spread of the disease is hampered by growing security concerns. Currently, 724 infected individuals are in isolation or in hospitals.
