Egypt and Iran Draw 1-1 in World Cup Group G
Egypt held Iran to a 1-1 draw, surviving a late offside goal, to finish second in Group G, while Iran remains in contention as a best third-place team.

Quick Goals and Early Action
The match started at a high tempo. Egypt took the lead in the 5th minute when Mahmoud Sabers capitalized on a mistake by Iran's goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand to score from close range. Iran had an immediate chance to equalize from the penalty spot, but Mostafa Shobeir saved Mehdi Taremi's kick. Nevertheless, Iran leveled in the 14th minute through Ramin Rezaeian, who pounced on the rebound after Milad Mohamadi's shot was saved.
Second Half Drama
Both teams pushed for a winner in the second half. Egypt's Omar Marmoush and Zizo missed good opportunities, while Iran increasingly threatened from set pieces. Meanwhile, Belgium extended their lead against New Zealand in the parallel game, meaning a draw was no longer enough for Iran.
Late Controversy
Deep into stoppage time, Shodja Khalilzadeh appeared to score for Iran, sparking celebrations. However, a VAR review ruled the goal offside. Shortly after, Saeid Ezatolahi hit the crossbar, and the score remained 1-1.
Group Standings
With the draw, Egypt finished second in Group G behind Belgium. Iran, with three points, still have a chance to advance as one of the best third-placed teams.
