Argentina defeated Egypt 3-2 on Friday, but the match was overshadowed by a controversial moment. In the 58th minute, Egypt striker Mostafa Ziko scored, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review because a foul on an Argentine player was spotted at the start of the counterattack.
Despite this, Ziko later found the net again to double his team's lead. However, Argentina came back to win, with Lionel Messi contributing a goal and an assist.
After the match, Egypt's head coach Hassan expressed outrage at the press conference. He insisted his team played better than the reigning world champions and stated that factors both on and off the pitch influenced the result. The coach did not shy away from strong accusations, suggesting that tournament organizers might have wanted Argentina and Messi to stay in the competition, adding that the world champions received support at every level.
"I don't want to put it politely and talk about bad luck. We were cheated today. We suffered an injustice. We saw no respect or fair play. There was none here," Hassan said.
