Economist Strautiņš: Theory and practice equally important, study year in Denmark taught ironic perspective
In an interview on "Grāds kabatā", economist Pēteris Strautiņš emphasizes that theoretical knowledge and practical skills are both necessary, and his exchange year in Denmark served as a real life school.

Economist Pēteris Strautiņš shared his thoughts on the role of education and experience on the radio show "Grāds kabatā" on Radio NABA. He noted that while theory is important and without it even hobbies are difficult, he has become convinced over the years of the value of practical skills. In his view, both aspects – theory and practice – are equally important and mutually dependent.
A particularly significant period in his life was a year of study abroad in Denmark through an exchange program. This experience served as a true life school and allows him to view events in Latvia with a slight irony. Strautiņš acknowledges that this perspective helps him better understand local realities and appreciate both achievements and shortcomings. The experience gave him a new way of looking at how to approach challenges and learning.
He encourages people to do things that require greater effort, as that is where the most valuable experience is gained and skills developed that cannot be acquired from books alone. The interview was part of a discussion about educational paths and life lessons, emphasizing the importance of student exchange programs for personal growth.
