“Exam is not a punishment!” – Ministry of Education on exam results, distance learning issues, and options for those who failed
Education Minister Ilze Indriksone says exam results have improved, but the number of failures increased. She promises solutions, and the mandatory advanced-level exam may be dropped.

The Ministry of Education and Science presented the latest exam results, emphasizing that the trend is positive. In primary school, there are no significant changes, but in secondary school, results have improved. While some exams saw slightly lower scores, these differences are within statistical margins.
The national average exam score is 50%. There has been a significant increase both in the number of students who failed exams and in those with excellent results. The ministry believes the education system is moving in the right direction.
This year, exam administration was affected by airspace threats in Latgale, but the resulting difficulties were overcome.
Education and Science Minister Ilze Indriksone (National Alliance) repeatedly stressed that exams should not become a punishment. For students who did not pass an exam, it is not a verdict, but currently their options are limited. The ministry promises to find solutions for these students. Additionally, the mandatory advanced-level exam may be abolished in the future.
