With the start of summer vacation, extracurricular activities have stopped, leaving children with more free time. However, this period often leads to a sharp increase in hours spent on digital devices, experts caution. In a Latvian radio program "Ģimenes studija" (Family Studio), specialists emphasize that parents play a key role in structuring children's free time, including managing screen time.

Three serious signs indicate excessive screen exposure. First, social isolation — children may withdraw from real-life communication with family and friends. Second, disrupted circadian rhythms, as children go to bed later and wake up later, upsetting their sleep schedule. Third, emotional regulation difficulties — children may struggle to control their emotions, manifesting as irritability or anxiety.

Parents are advised to actively plan their child's day, incorporating physical activities, creative pursuits, and social interactions to reduce screen dependence. Experts stress that these signs are a call to action before problems become chronic.
