Expert: US Midterm Elections Will Not Change Fuel Prices
A few days before the US midterm elections, high fuel prices are one factor that could hurt the Republican Party. Expert Māris Andžāns says the election outcome will not affect prices.

With only days left before the US midterm elections, held during a president's term, high fuel prices have become one of the reasons that could weaken the Republican Party's chances. Māris Andžāns, director of the Geopolitics Research Centre and associate professor at Riga Stradiņš University, told the portal Delfi that the election result itself will have little effect on fuel prices.
From cheap fuel to discontent
The war waged by the United States and Israel against Iran has lasted eight months. Shortly before it began, US President Donald Trump boasted to Americans that he had secured low fuel prices. Since the war started, his popularity has taken a heavy blow. The conflict has had serious consequences for global society and for Americans themselves.
Americans are most troubled by economic issues and the cost of living, including high fuel prices.
The expert's view
Andžāns stresses that Americans will have to live with expensive fuel. He says talk of solutions to the rise in fuel prices is merely pre-election rhetoric, not a real plan that would change the situation after the vote.
