Expert warns: unresolved dispute with Poland could hurt Ukraine
Political analyst Raimonds Rublovskis said on TV24 that Ukraine's relationship with Poland matters far more than comparisons to the US, warning that unresolved historical disputes could jeopardize Western aid deliveries.
On TV24's programme “Globuss,” political analyst and reserve colonel Raimonds Rublovskis argued that comparing Ukraine's situation to that of the United States is misguided, since the scale and capabilities of the two countries differ completely. In his view, Ukraine should instead focus on its relationship with Poland.
Poland's role in supporting Ukraine
Rublovskis noted that Poland is one of the few countries with genuine military capability and a society willing to defend its territory. At the same time, historical and political disputes persist between the two nations, including the unresolved issue of the Volhynia massacre.
The expert was critical of decisions made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky regarding the commemoration and honouring of Ukrainian nationalist organizations, saying such moves risk further straining relations with Warsaw.
Risk to logistics and aid
According to Rublovskis, Poland plays a crucial role in channeling Western military aid to Ukraine, with a large share of logistics passing through Polish territory, including a key hub near Rzeszów. He warned that Ukraine should therefore avoid letting relations deteriorate, since this could affect the delivery of weapons, intelligence and other forms of assistance.
Rublovskis added that the stance taken by Poland's leadership shows the historical dispute over the Volhynia massacre remains unresolved, and that Ukraine should not ignore the issue, as it could pose serious risks to future cooperation.
