Expert: Cyberattack on Latvijas Valsts meži used seven-year-old vulnerability; PM demands reports
Following a major cyberattack on LVM's IT systems, PM Andris Kulbergs has requested all ministries to report on cybersecurity measures, while an expert notes the exploit of an unpatched vulnerability.

After a significant cyberattack on the information technology systems of Latvijas Valsts meži (LVM), Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs (United List) has demanded that all ministries provide information on how IT security and data protection are ensured within their institutions and subordinate bodies. The Prime Minister emphasized that the incident demonstrates an undeniably irresponsible attitude towards national security. Cybersecurity expert Elviss Strazdiņš explained that the hacker exploited a software vulnerability that had not been patched for seven years. This raises serious concerns about the state of cybersecurity across the public administration and the practices for applying updates.
