Ērģeme residents create new recreation spot in parish centre
A new recreation area with a grill and campfire site has been opened in the centre of Ērģeme parish. Municipal employees carried out the work with support from local entrepreneurs.
This summer, residents and visitors of Ērģeme parish can enjoy a newly equipped recreation area in the very centre of the parish. It has been arranged at the former swimming spot, offering opportunities for grilling, cooking soup over an open fire and relaxing.
According to Līga Kondratjeva, head of Ērģeme parish administration, the largest part of the funding came from the local government, and the allocated budget was not exceeded. The municipality also provided materials. The main work was done by parish administration employees – Laimis Luters, Ingars Gredzens, Edgars Putniņš, Ivars Pilskalns and Uģis Bergsons. Thanks were also expressed to Līga Ķībere.
Local entrepreneurs Jānis Mednis, Roberts Kreilis and Dzintars Jurševskis also lent a hand; several of them have been elected to the parish residents’ council. Jānis Podnieks also helped. Kaspars Verovkins created and donated an environmental object to the parish, while Aldis Milla donated a personalised grill. Grilling accessories are also available.
Before the recreation area was set up, volunteers took part in the April Big Cleanup, using equipment provided by entrepreneurs to tidy the swimming area and pull out the piles of the former outdoor stage. The stage had served its time, and its restoration would have required considerable funding. Events and celebrations in Ērģeme mostly take place at the castle ruins.
Kondratjeva noted that the weather this year has been changeable – the plan was to finish the work by Midsummer, but that did not happen. Not all ideas have been implemented yet, but people can already use the site, and she has noticed activity there.
The recreation area includes a grill, a campfire site for cooking soup in a cast-iron pot, a shelter for leisurely rest and an environmental object for photo opportunities. Small children have sand toys, while older visitors can use sports equipment.
Kondratjeva urges people to treat the surrounding nature and the newly equipped area with care so that it remains pleasant and tidy for everyone.
