Ērģeme Cemetery Chapel Gets New Roof and Electronic Bell
Valka municipality has started a project to renovate the Ērģeme cemetery chapel, replacing its roof and installing an electronically operated bell.

Work is underway at the Ērģeme cemetery chapel as part of a broader improvement project. Currently, workers are replacing the roof covering. According to Toms Simtiņš, head of the municipality's Development, Projects and Tourism Department, the old roofing, lathing, and cornice are being dismantled, while the existing roof structure is being reinforced and straightened.
The roof structure will be adapted to accommodate a bell tower, which will house a new, electronically controlled bell. The project also includes completing a unique stone enclosure wall on the right side of the cemetery, as well as installing new façade lighting.
Construction is being carried out by the local company SIA “Valkas būvnieks”, with supervision from SIA “Marčuks”. The total project cost is €47,912.82. Of this amount, 70% (€33,538.97) comes from European Union funds, while the remaining 30% (€14,373.85) is financed by Valka municipality.
It should be noted that a cemetery festival will take place on July 25 at Ērģeme cemetery.
