Ērģeme pensioner subscribes to Ziemeļlatvija because the newspaper is her only source of news
Austra Piebalga, a pensioner from Ērģeme parish, has taken out a full-year subscription to the regional newspaper Ziemeļlatvija. With no computer or tablet at home, the paper is the household's only source of news.

Austra Piebalga, a pensioner from Ērģeme parish, subscribes to the regional newspaper Ziemeļlatvija for a full year at a time, because the paper is the only source of news in her household. Her account was published on 29 October on the newspaper's website, ziemellatvija.lv. The author and photographer is Anita Kopštāle.
Why she subscribes
Piebalga says she wants to know what is happening in the district. She asks, rhetorically, whether so little really goes on there. As a drawback, she mentions that the paper carries more material about Smiltene than about other places.
The family has neither a computer nor a tablet at home, so the printed edition is the only way they learn the news.
More than six decades together
Austra Piebalga and her husband Arturs Piebalgs have been together for 61 years. Asked how they have managed to get along for so long, she answers briefly: the couple tries not to do each other harm.
