EU envoys meet Ukraine's anti-corruption chiefs, pledge continued support
Ambassadors from EU member states met NABU and SAPO leaders in Kyiv on Friday, reaffirming EU backing for Ukraine's anti-corruption efforts on its path to EU membership.

Ambassadors of EU member states to Ukraine met on Friday, 21 August, with Semen Kryvonos, head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), and Oleksandr Klymenko, head of the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO). The meeting was held at the EU Delegation building and was described by the EU office as "open and constructive," Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing a post by the EU Delegation to Ukraine on X, as relayed by European Pravda.
The delegation stated that the EU will continue its strong support for Ukraine's anti-corruption efforts as the country advances on its path toward EU membership.
Background
The meeting took place shortly after NABU and SAPO exposed a scheme, linked to what has been dubbed Operation Forrest Gump, in which suspects allegedly tried to seize real estate and other assets by interfering with the Ministry of Justice's networks. The same criminal group is said to have organised money laundering to cover bail for former energy and justice minister Herman Halushchenko, using the state-owned Sense Bank.
A SAPO prosecutor named individuals connected to the Forrest Gump and Themis cases, including Iryna Mudra, former deputy head of the President's Office, former lawmaker Maksym Mykytas, and sitting MP Vadym Stolar.
