Facebook's new AI Mode search uses public posts for answers
Meta has launched an AI Mode on Facebook that generates search results based on publicly shared content from its platforms, allowing users to get AI-powered answers instead of just links.

New AI Search Feature
Meta is rolling out a new AI Mode for Facebook search, which provides users with AI-generated results drawn from publicly posted content across Meta's platforms. The feature appears alongside traditional search modes like "People" and "Marketplace." It is part of a broader update that includes photo presets and collage template suggestions.
How It Works
The AI Mode is powered by Meta's Muse Spark AI model, which processes public posts and comments to generate answers. Users can ask follow-up questions to refine their searches. Meta states that over time, the feature will be able to cite recommendations and content from Instagram, Facebook, and Threads.
Comparison to Other Services
Similar functionality exists in Google Search, which pulls from Reddit threads for AI overviews. Meta's new feature also resembles the AI search in its Reddit-like Forum app. This move highlights how social media platforms are increasingly leveraging AI to enhance search capabilities.
