Recently, posts have been circulating on social media claiming that the Latvian parliament, the Saeima, passed a law banning a number of songs, including several composed by the legendary Latvian composer Raimonds Pauls. TVNET's fact-checking project "Faktomāts" examined the claim and found it to be false.

According to Faktomāts, no law banning songs by Raimonds Pauls or any other composer has been adopted by the Saeima. The claims about such a ban have been identified as false information spreading among social media users.

Raimonds Pauls is one of Latvia's best-known composers, whose works are widely performed both in Latvia and abroad, including at international music competitions and concerts. The use of his name and popular songs in the false claims may have helped them spread more widely.

Faktomāts is a project run by TVNET that specializes in checking information circulating in society and identifying disinformation. In this case, the project's conclusion is unambiguous: reports of a Saeima-passed law banning Raimonds Pauls' songs do not correspond to reality, and no such legislation exists in Latvia.

The case illustrates how easily false information tied to well-known and respected public figures can spread on social media. Fact-checkers are urging the public to critically evaluate unverified information and to confirm its accuracy through reliable sources before sharing it further.
