Fedorov denies seeking Trump's backing for elections in Washington, leaves door open for Musk meeting

Former Ukrainian official Mykhailo Fedorov denied in an interview that his upcoming US trip is aimed at securing President Donald Trump's support for holding elections in Ukraine, while not ruling out a meeting with Elon Musk.

Mykhailo Fedorov, in an interview with Ukraine's 24 Kanal, denied reports that his upcoming trip to the United States is connected to seeking President Donald Trump's backing for holding elections in Ukraine. He explained that the visit relates to his current work at the Eastern Europe Fund, including efforts to attract additional funding and several planned meetings with partners. He also has a number of important meetings in the defense sector focused on attracting investment, both in Europe and the US, tied to the development of new projects.

Asked whether he intends to seek Trump's support during the trip, Fedorov said he did not know where such reports originated. He stressed that holding elections is Ukraine's internal matter, to be discussed and decided domestically by society rather than communicated or promoted abroad. In his view, no outside party should impose a position on this issue.

Asked separately whether he plans to meet with SpaceX chief Elon Musk and continue cooperation with him, Fedorov gave a noncommittal answer, saying only "we'll see."

Background

The outlet Kyiv Independent earlier reported that Fedorov could travel to the US as soon as next week. The British newspaper The Guardian suggested the trip was linked to attempts to secure Washington's support for holding elections in Ukraine. Fedorov's press office stated that the US visit is not connected to political meetings. On August 6, Fedorov said he was continuing talks with Musk about the possibility of using Starlink internet to strike targets, including ballistic launch systems, on Russian territory.
