Italian carmaker FIAT has presented a concept vehicle called Multiplina at the Paris Motor Show. It is a fully electric L7 heavy quadricycle with a body only 3.04 metres long, yet it seats four passengers. The concept shows how the brand plans to develop micromobility, the segment of very small urban vehicles.

FIAT describes Multiplina as an intermediate step between the ultra-compact Topolino and a conventional passenger car. The idea is to combine small dimensions, a spacious interior and functionality suited to daily life.

Inspiration from the past

The concept draws on the 1956 FIAT 600 Multipla, which stood out in its time for its clever use of space. The new design carries that philosophy into the present day.

Intended use

Multiplina is meant for everyday needs: commuting to work, taking children to school and running small daily errands. The company calls it a Multi-Purpose Quadricycle. Its main advantage is the practicality of four seats in a vehicle roughly three metres long. The architecture combines the practicality of a car with the simplicity and compactness typical of a quadricycle.

The "more with less" principle

According to FIAT, the concept is built on the principle of "more with less". Compact dimensions, low weight and smart use of space allow materials and resources to be used more efficiently while keeping the functionality needed day to day. The brand sees this as a step towards simpler, more accessible and more sustainable mobility.

At the Paris Motor Show, Multiplina was displayed alongside another FIAT concept, MULTIPLAY. It offers a different take on family mobility and focuses on adapting the vehicle to varied needs, whereas Multiplina concentrates on maximum capacity and practicality in an especially compact format.
