FIFA considers expanding World Cup to 64 teams – Latvia's chances improve
FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that the organization would welcome 64 national teams in the 2030 World Cup finals, boosting Latvia's chances of qualification.

The International Football Federation (FIFA) is exploring the possibility of expanding the World Cup final tournament to 64 participants by 2030. FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced that the organization would positively view a larger number of teams.
Currently, 48 teams compete in the finals. An expansion would add 16 more squads, automatically increasing the prospects for national teams like Latvia, which has never qualified for the World Cup. Infantino's remarks indicate FIFA's ongoing consideration of format changes to make the tournament more inclusive and globally appealing.
No final decision has been made yet, but discussions are underway. The Latvian Football Federation views this potential development as an encouraging sign for the country's football growth.
