Ķekava beat Valmiera in floorball Superleague as Lauga hits 500 goals

In the Elvi men's floorball Superleague, Latvia's top-tier championship, "Ķekava/RB&B" won 10:7 (3:2, 3:1, 4:4) away to "FBK Valmiera". The result lifted Ķekava off the bottom of the table, where they had sat with three points. Valmiera's Gvido Lauga scored four goals and reached the 500-goal mark in the Superleague, but it did not save his team from defeat.

How the game went

Both sides scored in the first period. Mārtiņš Broks put Valmiera ahead, then Klāvs Ziedonis-Jansons and Endijs Umberts Barruss turned it around for the visitors. Ričards Eglītis and Lauga levelled the score, and Ričards Orste made it 3:2 to Ķekava before the break.

In the second period Orste scored his second goal of the game to extend the lead. Toms Ķeirāns added another, playing four-on-four. Broks pulled one back, but Valters Priede restored a three-goal gap at 6:3.

The third period had many penalties. Ķeirāns scored on a power play, while Lauga stood out late on: he made it 5:8, converted a power play and scored his 500th Superleague goal in the final minute. Kārlis Degins also scored. Ķekava still held on to the win.

Facts and standings

Lauga became the eighth player in Superleague history to reach 500 goals. Ķeirāns scored a hat-trick and has scored in all seven of his team's games this season. Ķekava won a second period for the first time this season. Broks, now on 413 goals, is 18th in Superleague history.

After the game Ķekava have six points from seven games, while Valmiera have eight points from eight games.
