The lower house of the French parliament, the National Assembly, has supported a bill on assisted suicide. If passed into law, it would allow adults suffering from incurable diseases to receive medical assistance to end their lives. This step marks a significant turning point in France's debate on euthanasia and patient rights. The bill must still pass through the Senate, and its adoption is not guaranteed. However, the lower house's support indicates a changing attitude among the public and politicians on this issue. Currently, France has the Leonetti law, which only permits deep sedation until death, not active assistance in ending life.
