Hairdresser: Comfortable Hairstyles Are Possible After Age 60
Hairdresser Iveta Lapsale advises women and men over 60 to choose a hairstyle based on lifestyle, facial features and taste rather than fashion. She also explains how to care for changing hair and scalp.

Latvian hairdresser Iveta Lapsale says that people over 60 can still look well-groomed while spending only a little time on daily hair care. As she notes, hair structure, thickness and growth patterns change with age, so care habits sometimes need adjusting, but this does not mean giving up a favourite style or chasing the latest trends.
For women
Women over 60 do not necessarily need a short haircut. The choice is better based on hair thickness, face shape and how much time can be spent styling each day. If hair has become finer, a carefully shaped cut with lightly arranged strands may help. Hair that is too long and heavy can look flat, so it is worth discussing a suitable length with a hairdresser. Natural curls do not have to be straightened. Grey hair need not be hidden: a silvery or grey tone can look tasteful when the hair is clean and the ends are trimmed regularly.
Hair and scalp care
With age, hair may become drier, more brittle or thinner, influenced by heredity, health, medication and habits. A mild shampoo is recommended, with conditioner for dry ends; after washing, hair should be gently blotted with a towel rather than rubbed, and a hairdryer used on moderate heat. Persistent itching, redness, marked flaking or sudden heavy hair loss should be checked with a family doctor or dermatologist. Hair is also affected by a balanced diet, rest and physical activity, while supplements should not be started without need.
For men
Men can choose either a short classic cut or a slightly longer one that suits the direction of hair growth and does not require long styling. When hair has thinned, a simpler, even cut generally looks neater than combing hair over bare areas. Beards and moustaches should be trimmed regularly, and men with sensitive skin should use gentler shaving motions.
Trends in 2026
According to the article, 2026 hair fashion is led by natural beauty, soft shapes and easy-care styles. Examples include the classic bob, a short cut between a bob and a pixie, medium-length layered hair, a short classic men's cut with natural texture, and natural grey hair with a side parting.
