Froneri Latvia, the Latvian arm of the international ice cream manufacturer Froneri, has invested €12,000 in creating two new ice cream products. The range is expanded by Tio milk caramel ice cream made with condensed milk, and Karlsons vanilla ice cream with cherry sauce.

Both products are filled into film packaging sealed at both ends, with a volume of 460 millilitres, or 220 grams. In everyday speech, this type of packaging is often called an "ice cream sausage".

Change of ownership

In early June 2026, after the sale of the Food Union group's ice cream business in Europe was completed, Froneri became the owner of the dairy processing company Rīgas saldējuma fabrika. Froneri had signed the agreement to acquire Food Union's ice cream business in Europe, including in Latvia, in October 2025. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

In December 2025, Latvia's Competition Council approved the acquisition. The authority allowed Froneri International Limited to gain sole decisive influence over Food Union Luxembourg Group.

Rīgas piena kombināts, part of Food Union, set up the subsidiary Rīgas saldējuma fabrika in January this year to separate the ice cream business from its dairy products operations.

Brands

In Latvia, Food Union produced ice cream under the brands Pols, Tio, Karlsons, Jungle Pop and Ekselence. Froneri makes ice creams under brands such as Extreme, Drumstick, Oreo, Milka, Cadbury, Pirulo, Nuii and others. It also operates in frozen food products, producing frozen cakes.
