Hotly Anticipated 'Grand Theft Auto VI' Will Cost $80 Without a Physical Disc
The digital version of 'Grand Theft Auto VI' will be priced at $80, higher than typical AAA games, while the physical disc version goes on sale November 12. The game launches November 19.

The highly anticipated 'Grand Theft Auto VI' will cost $80 for its digital version without a physical disc, making it $10 more expensive than most other AAA titles. This price point does not necessarily signal that all future AAA games will follow suit, as industry observers note that the game's scope, fidelity, and scale justify the higher cost. However, the initial purchase is not the only revenue stream; the game is expected to feature a robust multiplayer service with subscriptions and in-app purchases.
'GTA VI' is scheduled to launch on current-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles on November 19, with download preloading starting on November 12. The retail physical disc version will also be available on November 12, allowing players to avoid a large download on launch day. A PC version is expected but has not been given a release date.
Demand for the game is exceptionally high, and many players are likely willing to pay the premium price. Nonetheless, this does not herald an immediate $80 price point for all AAA games; for now, most will continue to launch at $70. The industry has been experimenting with price variations based on investment levels, with AA games often launching at $50.
