Goldman Sachs: Global War Risk Highest Since 1960s

Goldman Sachs analysts warn that the risk of a global conflict is the highest in 60 years, surpassing levels seen during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the peak of the Cold War, and the 9/11 attacks.

Geopolitical tensions have reached a level not seen since the 1960s, according to a study by investment bank Goldman Sachs. The report states that the current risk is higher than during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the height of the Cold War, or the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Analysts emphasize that the concern stems not from a single conflict but from simultaneous rising tensions across multiple regions. Over the past five to ten years, the world has increasingly divided into competing geopolitical blocs, with countries more frequently abandoning neutrality and taking sides, thereby increasing global fragmentation.

The study predicts that tensions between major powers could intensify further by the end of the decade. This is driven not only by the war in Ukraine but also by the situation in the Middle East, growing US-China competition, and other regional conflicts that collectively increase global instability.

The authors warn that these trends pose risks not only to international security but also to the global economy, investments, and supply chains.
