Google rolls out new AI study tools across Search and Gemini
Google unveiled a batch of new AI-powered study features for Search and Gemini on Wednesday, including interactive visuals, 3D simulations, and customized practice quizzes. The move is meant to position Gemini as students' go-to learning assistant amid competition from OpenAI and education startups.

Google on Wednesday introduced a wide range of new study tools for Search and its Gemini assistant, including AI-generated interactive visuals, 3D simulations, a dedicated student hub, and customized practice quizzes. The rollout is Google's latest push to make Gemini the assistant students rely on for learning, as it competes with OpenAI and education-focused startups such as Knowt and Gauth.
New features in Search
Students can now generate custom interactive tools and simulations in Search to better grasp complex topics. For instance, searching for "pH scale" produces an interactive visual within an AI Overview, and a follow-up question can prompt AI Mode to build a more tailored interactive experience, such as plotting citrus fruits on the scale.
Search also now offers customized practice quizzes on any subject — science, math, humanities, foreign languages and more — generated from a simple prompt, such as a request for commonly tested vocabulary ahead of an exam.
In the coming weeks, Lens in Search will gain a new interactive learning feature: students can photograph a problem they're working on and receive an explanation of the concept, identification of mistakes, and guidance if they're stuck. Search can also now generate study documents, such as a one-page summary, from uploaded files including PDFs, documents, slides and handwritten notes.
New features in Gemini
Gemini Live now lets students launch multi-step research reports on a topic and then discuss the findings conversationally by voice once the report is ready, with the work happening in the background while they do other things.
Gemini can also generate functional 3D simulations, with responses now able to include tables, grids and simulations tailored to the prompt — for example, an interactive, rotatable 3D model of DNA.
Google has additionally launched a dedicated hub within the Gemini app that consolidates its learning tools, letting users start study notebooks, create flashcards and take practice quizzes all in one place.
