Gula after Champions League elimination: 'A huge mistake shifted the initiative to the opponents'
Latvian champions 'Riga' were eliminated from UEFA Champions League qualification despite a 3-2 home win. Head coach Adrian Gula highlighted the impact of a critical error.

On Tuesday, Latvian football champions 'Riga' ended their UEFA Champions League qualification campaign. The team defeated 'Ararat-Armenia' 3-2 at home, but it wasn't enough after a 2-0 loss away in the first leg.
Head coach Adrian Gula said in a press conference that it was one of the team's best performances under his leadership, but expressed pain over the overall result. 'Of course, it's painful because such a win is not enough,' Gula stated.
He praised the first half as fantastic – with high pressing, good intensity, and two excellent goals. 'The initiative was completely ours,' he added.
However, the early minutes of the second half brought a turning point. Gula pointed to a 'huge mistake' that gave the initiative to the opponents. Goalkeeper Krišjānis Zviedris made an error in his own box, gifting the ball to the opponents, which changed the dynamic.
Despite the setback, Gula did not blame any player; he commended the team's character and fighting spirit. 'We hit the post twice, one goal was disallowed,' he noted. 'After such a mistake, it was difficult to recover.'
