Prince Harry, the younger son of King Charles III, and his wife Meghan Markle are planning their first joint public appearance this week since moving back to the United Kingdom. On Thursday the couple will travel to the English city of Nottingham to learn about projects run by three charitable organisations, according to the British newspaper The Sunday Times.

Harry and Meghan were also seen together in public in Nottingham after announcing their engagement in 2017.

Return after six years

In late August, Harry, Meghan, who previously worked as an actress in the US, and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, unexpectedly returned from the United States after six years to settle in Britain. In early 2020, the couple had stepped back from royal duties amid disagreements with the royal family.

Media reports suggest Harry appears to have reconciled with his father, King Charles III, who is battling cancer. Differences with his elder brother, Prince William, the heir to the throne, and William's wife Catherine are reportedly still unresolved.

Earlier appearances

In September, Harry attended a charity event in London dedicated to the Invictus Games, the sports competition for wounded service members that he founded. Meghan did not accompany him. On Friday, the 42-year-old prince attended a rugby match, and when he appeared on the stadium's big screen, some spectators booed him.

The couple's status

In early September, King Charles III made clear that Harry and Meghan are still not working members of the royal family. An official letter stressed that the couple's status is equivalent to that of private individuals and that they must not be addressed as His or Her Royal Highness.

According to The Sunday Times, the couple will most likely not be invited to the royal family's Christmas celebrations at the King's Sandringham estate, so they are reportedly planning to spend the holiday in the US.
