Iecava marked the fifth anniversary of obtaining city status on July 1. In an interview with 'Bauskas Dzīve,' Normunds Vāvers, head of the Iecava administration, emphasized that the city status has positively influenced both residents' self-confidence and the local economy.

Since 2022, Iecava has seen an increase in population, partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as many Riga residents moved to the suburbs. The municipality and businesses have invested in infrastructure – the Lutheran church has been renovated, its image appearing on the city coat of arms and on souvenir coins. A new 'Circle K' fuel station is being built, and upcoming projects include the renovation of Grāfa Square, a pedestrian path to Sila cemetery, and the second phase of the sports school.

The Ķekava bypass, which reduces travel time from Riga to about 20 minutes, has encouraged businesses to set up in Iecava. Vāvers notes that Iecava is gradually becoming a bedroom community for Riga. Although the population in the broader Bauska municipality is slightly declining, Iecava's numbers are rising steadily. City status has helped attract investments and improved cooperation with the municipal council. Vāvers highlights that Iecava residents are strong local patriots and urges them to maintain their identity within the merged municipality.
