The Pärnu County Court in Estonia has remanded a 73-year-old man in custody for two months on suspicion of a shooting at a farmstead in Märjamaa Parish, Rapla County. One person was killed and another seriously injured.

A court in Estonia has remanded a 73-year-old man in custody for two months on suspicion of a shooting at a farmstead in Märjamaa Parish, Rapla County, in the west of the country. One person died and another was seriously wounded. The Pärnu County Court issued the ruling the day before the report was published.
The shooting took place on Friday, 16 October, shortly after 6 p.m. According to police, a 72-year-old man died at the scene, while a 70-year-old woman with serious injuries was taken to hospital.
Arrest
The suspect left the scene by car and headed toward Tallinn. About an hour later, police detained him in Jüri. A weapon that was presumably used in the shooting was found on him.
Police say the man did not hold a firearms permit, and the origin of the weapon is being established. The suspect and the victims knew one another.
Court decision
The court agreed with the prosecutor's office's request and initially placed the man in custody for two months. Prosecutor Keili Tiirik, quoted by the prosecutor's office press service, said evidence-gathering would continue during the pre-trial investigation. The aim is to establish more precisely the events that preceded the shooting and other circumstances of the incident.
