On Wednesday, 28 October, at 10:12, Estonia's emergency call centre received a report of a sounding smoke detector at a summer house in the village of Esterby, in Läänemaa-Nigula parish in western Estonia. Such calls can signal a possible fire, so volunteer rescuers from Noarootsi were sent to check.

On arrival, the rescuers found no signs of fire in the building. With the help of the owner's neighbour, they got into the house and located the detector that was sounding the alarm.

The device turned out to be full of flies. The rescuers cleaned the smoke detector and restored it to working order.

The source does not say whether anyone was hurt or whether the building was damaged.
