The average electricity price in Estonia's price zone on the Nord Pool exchange reached 11.9 cents per kilowatt-hour this week, covering 26 October to 1 November. That is 70% more than the week before, when the average stood at 7 cents per kilowatt-hour. Nord Pool is the exchange platform where electricity is traded across several Nordic and Baltic countries, and its prices feed through to household and business costs.

Comparison with neighbouring countries

In Latvia and Lithuania, the average exchange price last week was about 17.7 cents per kilowatt-hour, notably higher than in Estonia. In Finland, the average was 4.3 cents per kilowatt-hour.

What end consumers pay

The source notes that these exchange prices are not the final tariff for consumers. For end users, value-added turnover tax is added on top, along with various fees and excise duties, so the amount on a bill is higher.
