Although Imants Lancmanis has not been the director of Rundāle Palace for six years, he remains strongly associated with the place, which has been his life's work. While the work brought him great satisfaction, it also demanded great sacrifices.
Lancmanis reveals he would not want to live in the palace, even if given the most beautiful part. He explains that the palace's energy is very powerful and captivating—it does not let go. The years in the palace were such that it held him in its power, and it is too large, pressing down on him.
That is why the two kilometers to his house turned out to be extremely blessed. At that distance, the palace's fascination—or as Lancmanis puts it, its radiation—ends.
