Latvia's Minister of Education and Science, Ilze Indriksone of the National Alliance party, said at an informal meeting of European Union education ministers that the country aims to build a new culture of lifelong learning. Lifelong learning means acquiring knowledge and skills throughout a person's life, not only during school and university years.
Shared responsibility
According to the minister, in such a culture four parties would jointly take responsibility for continuous skills development across the whole of life: the government, employers, educational institutions and the residents themselves.
Indriksone stressed this principle of shared responsibility as Latvia's goal. The source does not mention specific measures, funding or deadlines for achieving it.
