Ozolnieki Secondary School's deputy director for education, Inese Mičule, is well known as the head of the children's and youth folklore group 'Knipati'. In an interview with Zemgales Ziņas, she talks about her journey into folklore and her Latgalian heritage.
Mičule says she came to folklore thanks to Velta Leja, who gave her and other children in Jelgava a foundation in folklore and traditional culture. She describes herself as a 'child of Dimzēns'. Although she was born and raised in Jelgava, both her parents are from Latgale. This heritage, she explains, has shaped her character and temperament, giving her sincerity, openness, and a certain directness that is not typical for women from Zemgale. She spent much of her childhood in Latgale, where many relatives still live.
The educator also shares her professional path from mathematics to musicology and tells how the folk group 'Knipati' was established at her school. She confirms that she is a true Zemgale native with Latgalian blood and emphasizes that Latgale has always been close to her heart.
