The pension system in Latvia has again come into the spotlight, especially regarding the second pension pillar. Last year, heated debates took place over the government's decision to reduce the portion of social tax contributions to the second pillar from 6% to 5%. This year, the party "Latvia First" has been actively calling for allowing people to withdraw all the funds accumulated in the second pillar.

Investment expert Toms Kreicbergs, who has been teaching people how to invest money wisely for a long time, emphasizes the importance of mindset. "People need to believe that saving and investing will make life better, not restrict it," he says. Kreicbergs was born in Riga, studied physics at Reed College in the USA, then worked on Wall Street for four years. In 2011, he returned to Latvia and gradually became more involved in initiatives that improve life for individual investors.

His experience shows that successful money management starts small. Kreicbergs urges the public to change their thinking and view savings not as a constraint but as an opportunity for future security. The ongoing discussions about the second pension pillar are important, but a wise investment strategy can help people feel more confident about their financial future.
