Iran launches attacks on US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait
Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced strikes on American military targets in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Jordan in retaliation for US overnight attacks on dozens of Iranian sites. The ongoing conflict over control of the Strait of Hormuz escalates.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Tuesday morning that it had targeted American military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait, destroyed radar systems in Oman, and struck fuel tanks and ammunition depots at Prince Hassan air base in Jordan. The attacks were a response to overnight US strikes on “dozens” of Iranian sites, including air defense systems, radar sites, missile and drone equipment, and small boats.
Jordan reported intercepting and downing four missiles fired from Iranian territory, while Kuwait's military said it was intercepting “hostile aerial targets” in its airspace. These developments mark an escalation in the recent tit-for-tat exchanges between the US and Iran, as Tehran asserts sovereignty over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, through which one-fifth of the world's oil and gas typically flows.
The US Central Command stated that the Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade and that Iran does not control it. Iran rejected this, with the IRGC saying the strait is “our territory” and vowing not to allow Washington's “illegal interference.”
The US and Iran are nearly halfway through a 60-day interim deal signed on June 17, which was intended to establish a ceasefire and lay the groundwork for talks on trade through the strait and Iran's nuclear program. However, negotiations have not materialized, and both sides continue attacks. US President Donald Trump suggested last week that the deal was “over,” though mediators from Pakistan, Qatar, and Egypt continue efforts to reach a final agreement.
In other key developments: The US struck Iran early Sunday after the IRGC fired on a Cyprus-registered container ship it claimed was sailing an unauthorized route through the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC later said it hit a second vessel. US Central Command then reported attacking at least 140 targets. Iran previously announced the closure of the strait until further notice, but Trump rejected this, asserting that US forces were keeping it open by force. Iran's Mehr news agency reported that one person was killed and seven injured in a US attack on a military base in Nain, Iran. Oman activated sirens and urged residents to seek shelter.
