Hopes for regime change unfulfilled

The current situation stands in sharp contrast to what US President Donald Trump initially hoped for when the conflict began. Trump had expressed hope that the war would lead to the toppling of the Islamic Republic. He later claimed that a form of "regime change" had already occurred, suggesting that more compromise-minded officials had risen to prominence within Iran's leadership. Six months on, however, the opposite appears true, with hardline figures having strengthened their grip on power.

The financial toll on US taxpayers

In an analysis for France 24, journalist Philip Turle also examined the financial burden the war has placed on American society. According to his estimate, the conflict has so far cost roughly $1,100 for every US taxpayer. The figure underscores the scale of resources committed to a confrontation whose political goals — including the hoped-for change of power in Tehran — have not yet been achieved.
