Jaguar Unveils Type 01, Its First Production Electric Grand Tourer
Jaguar has presented the production Type 01 in New York, calling it the biggest gamble of its electric reinvention. The car starts at around $170,000 and targets a new kind of buyer.

Jaguar has officially revealed the Type 01 in New York, the production version of the Type 00 prototype that sparked heated debate in December 2024. After a rebrand that showed no cars, the company went a long period without selling any new models. Along the way, Jaguar Land Rover's chief creative officer Gerry McGovern, who approved the divisive design, also left.
Design and specifications
The Type 01 keeps the prototype's low roofline, long hood and 23-inch wheels, but gains extra doors that make the silhouette look more familiar. It is the most aerodynamic Jaguar ever, with a drag coefficient of 0.23. It measures 5,235 mm in length and 1,403 mm in height.
A tri-motor setup delivers up to 1,030 PS and 1,365 Nm. The car reaches 62 mph in 3.2 seconds. Its 118 kWh battery and 850-volt architecture provide an EPA range of up to 400 miles (450 on WLTP). With 350 kW charging, up to 200 miles can be added in 13 minutes.
Interior
A central spine runs through the cabin, with a 24-inch OLED screen for the driver and a 7-inch central display for climate and audio. There are no physical switches. A digital camera view replaces the rear window. Luggage space is 450 litres, rising to 1,000 litres with the rear seats folded.
Price and ambition
Pricing starts at around $170,000 (£130,000), though official figures are not yet confirmed. That places it below the Ferrari Luce, the electric Mercedes G-Class and the Bentley Torcal. Jaguar managing director Rawdon Glover believes no one has yet broken through in luxury EVs and hopes to attract a younger, more affluent, urban clientele. He defines success as establishing the new price point and reaching a sufficient sales volume, which he declined to specify. He expects the first two years to show whether the new audience has arrived.
