Young Man Dies in Midsummer Night Car Crash in Balvi Municipality

A 25-year-old man (born 1999) died on Midsummer night after his Audi A6 drove into a ditch in Vīksna parish. Over the first four holiday days, three people have been killed and 51 injured in road accidents across Latvia.

On Wednesday, Midsummer evening, around 9:30 PM, a fatal traffic accident occurred in Vīksna parish, Balvi municipality. A man born in 1999, driving an Audi A6, veered off the road and crashed into a ditch. He died at the scene. The State Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances.

This crash is one of several serious incidents during the holiday period. Over the first four days (Līgo and Jāņi), three people have lost their lives in road traffic accidents in Latvia, and 51 have been injured. On Līgo day, the highest number of casualties were recorded in Vidzeme, where eight people were injured. In the Rīga region, four people were injured, while Kurzeme and Latgale each reported two injured.

Among the injured were two cyclists, two e-scooter riders, and one pedestrian. For speeding, police issued 279 tickets yesterday: 27 in the Rīga region, 76 in Latgale, 66 in Zemgale, 64 in Kurzeme, and 46 in Vidzeme. One driver was fined for aggressive driving. In total, police issued 583 violation reports for various traffic rule infractions.
