New Mobilization in Russia Could Signal Failure of War Plan
Experts say a new mobilization wave in Russia would be a turning point and indicate the war is not going according to Kremlin's plan. Meanwhile, a Russian attack on Ukraine killed eight people.
According to Newsweek, citing experts, if Russia announces a new mobilization, it would mean Vladimir Putin is forced to admit that the war in Ukraine is not proceeding as planned.
Military analyst George Hardy explains that Putin has so far avoided mobilization due to high costs and political risks. A new wave could trigger a mass exodus of citizens and internal discontent. However, Hardy believes that even an additional 300,000–500,000 troops would not significantly change the course of the war, as Russia lacks equipment and experienced officers. Since 2022, the quality of the Russian military has declined, limiting its ability to conduct large-scale offensives. Mobilized troops could compensate for losses and sustain operations in certain sectors but not achieve a decisive breakthrough.
Analyst Georgi Revishvili adds that without mobilization, the Russian General Staff cannot form new large units, which would create problems for Ukraine. Everything depends on the scale of mobilization and training speed. Pressure on the Kremlin is increased by economic difficulties, frontline losses, and Ukrainian long-range strikes.
In a separate report, Ukrainian officials said that overnight Russian missile and drone attacks killed eight people and wounded 16. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, an Iskander-M ballistic missile hit a private house in the village of Radushne, killing six people, including two children. In Kyiv, one person was killed and two wounded, with fires breaking out in a market and a garage cooperative. In the Poltava region, drones attacked a warehouse and a Nova Poshta terminal, killing one person. In Lviv, residential buildings were damaged, and six people were wounded.
