Cultural and public figures arrived at Riga New Theatre (Jaunais Rīgas teātris) for the play “Tullia and Da Vinci. Seven Days”. The production tells of an imagined meeting between Leonardo da Vinci, the Renaissance genius, and Tullia d'Aragona, a philosopher and courtesan.
Original dramaturgy
The play is based on original dramaturgy. It weaves together fragments of Leonardo da Vinci's (1452–1519) notes, part of a body of work running to more than 7,000 pages and written in mirror script. These are combined with texts from Tullia d'Aragona's (1501–1556) treatise on love and her diary.
What the production is about
The staging invites the audience to imagine the encounter between the two historical figures, revealing their unusual perception of the world, their feelings and their relationship. The characters fall in love and part. Both life stories left a mark on cultural history: Tullia published a treatise on love, while da Vinci created the painting the world later came to know as the “Mona Lisa”.
