Very Cool People and Ralfs Eilands Record New Version of Arnis Mednis's “Shake Before Use”
Latvian band “Very Cool People” and singer Ralfs Eilands have created a new version and music video of Arnis Mednis's 1996 song “Shake Before Use”. It is dedicated to the musician's 65th birthday and previews joint concerts in November.
The Latvian band “Very Cool People” has recorded a new version of the 1996 hit “Shake Before Use” by Arnis Mednis, together with singer Ralfs Eilands. Mednis is a Latvian funk and soul music legend, and the song is dedicated to his 65th birthday, marked on 18 October. The single comes with a music video. It is another preview of the band's upcoming concert programme, which features the music of both Mednis and the group “ODIS”.
November concerts
The cover programme, titled “Very Cool People and Arnis Mednis Play ODIS”, will be performed on 6 November at the Splendid Palace cinema in Riga and on 14 November at the Cēsis concert hall in the Vidzeme region. Mednis himself will join the band at both shows, playing keyboards and vocoder. Ralfs Eilands has been announced as a special guest and will sing ODIS songs. Vocalist Daniela Mase and the band's trombonist Laura Rozenberga will also perform.
Collaboration
Mednis says working with “Very Cool People” has let him look at familiar songs afresh. According to him, the songs will be the same ones but arranged in an interesting way, and the meeting has made him feel 45 rather than 65. The collaboration began in the summer, when new versions of two ODIS songs, “Šodien ārā saulains laiks” and “Radio”, were created.
The arrangement of the new “Shake Before Use” was written by band leader Elvijs Grafcovs, and the video was made by band member Oskars Ozoliņš. The song turns 30 this year.
