New indie games and Steam Summer Sale: roundup
This week's indie game roundup features new releases like Dark Scrolls and Mini AirHockey, along with news about studio closure and delays. The Steam Summer Sale is also underway until July 9.
The Steam Summer Sale, one of the biggest annual PC gaming events, is now live and runs until July 9. Valve has also started the reservation process for the Steam Machine, potentially allowing PC gamers to save on games over time. This week, news broke that studio Douze Dixiémes, creator of MIO: Memories in Orbit, has shut down. Additionally, Ratatan, a spiritual successor to Patapon, has been delayed from July 16 to October 15 for polishing.
New releases:
- Dark Scrolls ($10, 10% off until July 5) is a side-scrolling roguelite platformer inspired by FromSoftware games. It features local and online co-op, no tutorials (but a real-life phone hotline for tips), and a variety of heroes with unlockable perks. The upgrade economy is described as harsh.
- Mini AirHockey ($1, 10% off until July 8) is a two-player Steam Deck game using touchpads, reminiscent of Pong but in a handheld format.
- Dart Racer ($10, 20% off until July 7) is an arcade podracing game with a retro N64 look, playable in VR with a cockpit view. Currently in early access, full release expected in at least nine months.
- Deer & Boy ($20, 10% launch discount) is a narrative-driven platformer about a young runway and a fawn, with no dialogue or graphic violence.
Upcoming titles:
- Tears of Metal enters early access on July 22, a hack-and-slash with online co-op and roguelite elements, where players lead Scottish troops. Full release expected within 12 months.
- Erosion is a Western roguelike where each death advances time by a decade; playtest available until June 30, full game due in early 2027.
- Dinoblade launches July 23: an action RPG where you play a Spinosaurus wielding a sword in its jaws.
