The Riga bus station will continue operating at its current location, its new owner, SIA RIVARO Holding, has confirmed. The company ruled out demolishing the existing building or changing its function, saying the focus will instead be on gradually developing the site and improving its operations.

The acquisition deal was financed through a loan from Signet Bank AS, and the new owners plan to invest additional funds into the station, targeting focused development of the existing infrastructure.

First steps to affect daily passenger experience

In the initial phase, priority areas for development will be identified, focusing mainly on improvements passengers will notice directly — the ticketing system, digital services and information screens.

Vasilijs Serdjukovs, a board member of SIA RIVARO Holding, said renovating a bus station with more than sixty years of history is a strategic necessity. At the same time, he noted that decisions of this scale cannot be made by a single shareholder, given the station's proximity to Rail Baltica infrastructure, a railway junction, the Central Market and Riga's historic centre — all of which require a coordinated approach among all parties involved.

While broader discussions on long-term development continue, the company intends to implement near-term improvements that passengers will be able to notice soon: easier ticket purchasing, clearer information about platforms and route changes, more convenient transfers, and a better overall environment at the station.

Ticket prices set by others

Serdjukovs clarified that the bus station's owner does not set ticket prices: fares for regional routes are approved by the state, while prices for international routes are set by the carriers themselves. He added that the station's revenue depends on how convenient, accessible and actively used it is by passengers, which he described as the new shareholder's main interest.
