New video shows Ukrainian forces using German Skynex system to down Russian cruise missile
The Ukrainian Air Command West has released a video showing a German-made Skynex air defense system intercepting a Russian cruise missile. A battery commander explained the system's capabilities and revealed its combat record of downing 34 drones and two cruise missiles.

The Air Command West (Zakhid) posted a video on Facebook depicting a Skynex anti-aircraft artillery system, manufactured by Germany's Rheinmetall, destroying a Russian cruise missile.
Andrii, the commander of a battery equipped with Skynex systems, stated that Ukraine's defense forces were among the first to receive this system. The cruise missile was intercepted during one of Russia's attacks on Ukraine.
"The system measures the target's range, altitude and speed. The projectile is programmed as it leaves the barrel by a programmer located in the muzzle brake-compensator," Andrii explained.
According to the command, the Skynex system featured in the video has downed 34 Shahed-type attack drones and two Kh-101 cruise missiles.
"The system automatically tracks the target, calculates the intercept point and the projectile detonates in close proximity to the target," the serviceman added.
Skynex is a short-range anti-aircraft artillery system designed to combat drones and intercept missiles, artillery, and mortar munitions. Developed and manufactured by Rheinmetall, it consists of the Oerlikon Skymaster battle management system, the Oerlikon X-TAR3D tactical radar data acquisition device, and up to four Oerlikon Revolver Gun Mk3 anti-aircraft cannons.
Ukraine operates models with four cannons. As of November 2025, Ukraine's defense forces had four Skynex units in service.
